As Kevin explained in announcing the release, the new recording is “very representative of where I’m at musically, at the moment.”

The qualifier matters. Embleton’s catalog has rarely stayed in one place for very long, and he readily acknowledges that where he is musically can change from one season to another.

That makes the subtitle “kevin’s version” less about replacing what came before and more about documenting where the song — and its writer — have landed in 2026.

An Old Song with a Different Perspective
There’s also an interesting tension in returning to a song about escaping a daydream nearly a decade later.
