Intro
Hey friends, Matt Hammitt here. I’m looking forward to joining you at Writes & Bites next week!
A little background on me: I was the lead singer of Sanctus Real from 1996–2016. Over the past decade, I’ve continued my artist career while spending more time writing songs for other artists. I love co-writing and deeply believe in the power of collaboration.
Currently, I’m signed with Gotee Records and I’m always looking for my next single… something that connects on streaming and, if it’s the right fit, can impact radio as well.
What I’m Looking For
The songs that resonate most with me strike a balance between intentional craft and honest emotion. I’m drawn to songs that feel strong enough to be a radio single, but still keep the heart and soul of the writers intact.
Songs that feel like the real conversations we have with God, ourselves, or each other. Especially in the moments when we most need healing, clarity, or hope. I’m also open to concept or story songs if they are really strong and original.
If I’m going to release a song, it needs both:
• Excellence in craft
• Authenticity in message
Creative Direction
If a song meets that core criteria, I’m open stylistically, and to any tempo. That said, it also needs to work in its simplest form:
• Just me and an acoustic guitar
• Something that feels just as powerful around a campfire as it does in a coliseum
Final Thought
Write from a real place. Sing something that moves you first. Then trust that it might move someone else, maybe even the world, if they hear it.
