WHO IS CLARK? | Clark Beckham is a soulful singer, storyteller, actor, and aspiring author from Nashville — a deeply introverted thinker who processes the world through books, film, sports, and music. He’s a preacher and a teacher. His life right now: happily married, wanting kids, his mom is moving away and fighting cancer, his grandfather just passed, he feels estranged from family, he wrestles with procrastination and self-centeredness, and he’s actively pursuing therapy and empathy.
THE SOUND | Think: Robin Thicke’s Evolution, John Legend, D’Angelo, Allen Stone, John Mayer, Jonny Lang, Bruno Major, Tom Misch, Sienna Spiro, Scary Pockets. That’s the room we’re building. Soul, R&B, singer/songwriter. Mix of tempos — late-night slow burns, mid-tempo grooves, and uptempo funk all have a place. What ties it together is richness: lush, thoughtful chord progressions. The chords don’t have to be complex — simple chords absolutely work if the melody is emotional and moving. Aim for a live-band warmth — organic drums, Rhodes or piano, real bass, layered vocals, guitar that sings. Jazz-adjacent chord movement is welcome.
THE FEELING | “I want this album to feel like a buttery croissant in your mouth. I want people to cry at parts from relating to it so deeply and I want it to make people think of things in a way they’ve never thought of them before. I want them to smile at parts. Overall I want people to feel deeply.” — Clark
Comfort and gut-punch in the same project. Warmth with weight. Familiar enough to feel like home, honest enough to stop you mid-listen.
THEMES TO EXPLORE:
Love & Marriage | The real, lived-in kind — not infatuation. Commitment, chosen daily.
Grief & Loss | A grandfather gone. A mother’s illness. Distance from family. The quiet ache of what’s changing.
Self-awareness | Knowing your flaws — selfishness, procrastination, avoidance — and sitting in that tension honestly.
Empathy & Connection | Why won’t we just listen to each other? The hunger for real understanding across division.
Identity & Purpose | Who am I supposed to be? The man still becoming himself — artist, husband, son, seeker.
Faith & God | Not worship or CCM, but God isn’t off the table. Wrestling is ok — just don’t sound like Job’s friends.
WHAT THIS IS NOT | No CCM. No worship anthems. No tidy resolutions. Don’t write at the listener — write with them. Clark doesn’t want to preach in song; he wants to confess, question, and feel alongside whoever is listening. Avoid clichés that have been sung a thousand times. If it sounds like it belongs on Christian radio or a graduation playlist, that ain’t it.
THE NORTH STAR | Write for someone who reads too much (impossible), feels deeply, loves fiercely, and is still figuring himself out. Write something that sounds gorgeous and says something true.
